On December 6th 2011, the Quakertown Band was again featured in the annual Christmas in Quakertown concert along with the Quakertown Festival Choir , Sweet Harmonry and the Sanctuary Bells. The concert was held at the United Church of Christ on 4th street in Quakertown, like it normally is, and wow... was it packed, like it normally is. The concert started at 7:30, and by 6:45 there were no seats left. By 7:15, there was no standing room left. The church was filled to the brim with families looking for fun, festive music to kick start the holiday season.
And every one of those families got exactly what they had hoped for. All four ensembles performed beautifully and filled the air with joyous, heartfelt music about Christmas. The musical quality of this concert could definitely justify charging admission, but luckily for the Quakertown area, this one is purely a gift.
One of the highlights of the concert was the world premiere performance of a new composition composed specifically for the Quakertown Band called "Exultation for Band"... and the composer, David C. Overholtzer was there as a guest conductor to lead. It certainly was a nice early Christmas present for the arts community of Quakertown. The Quakertown Band was honored to be involved, as always, and we look forward to another amazing Christmas celebration for 2012.
